Briefing Paper 4:

What is telecare?

What is ‘telecare’? Or, more precisely, what does the Telecare Alliance mean by ‘telecare’? After all, the Alliance revolves around it. However, defining telecare in the current UK social and health service context is a rich and troublesome source of debate, which is why we are dedicating a whole briefing paper to it.

Briefing Paper 1: What the Preventative Technology Grant means for social services and partner organisations

We explain why, in the era of the Department of Health’s ‘hands off’ approach to policy implementation, it made such a big deal of its launch; why services need to pay attention to the issues raised by the Department’s Telecare Policy Collaborative, and why attempts to add telecare into current systems without a full understanding of the issues will just add costs without realising the significant benefits that telecare can bring. The briefing paper also contains calculations of indicative grant amounts, by authority.

The briefing paper is four pages of text and four of the indicative Preventative Technology Grant allocations table. Click here to open the pdf file
