Fragmented sleep a precursor to falls

From Canada, Tactex Controls Inc., the developers of the fibre optic-based pressure sensor, Kinotex, has completed a research pilot project using its “under the mattress” bed occupancy sensor to monitor the quality of sleep of residents with dementia. Says Rob Inkster, CEO, “What we found in this pilot study is that disturbed or fragmented sleep is a precursor to stumbles and falls”. Read more.

Virginia Murley, nearly blind, lives in a senior apartment in Mesquite, Texas. When she turned down the temperature control on her thermostat by accident, she couldn’t see well enough to fix it. She huddled under an electric blanket as the apartment’s temperature dropped…
